Oh yes!!! The "official count"!!!! I saw some people this year anticipating reaching the stupendous 20 million mark worldwide with breathless enthusiasm. None of them ever stopping to consider that the vast, vast majority of people who only show up for the Memorial each year are NOT newly interested ones from the field service or invitation campaigns. No, the vast, vast majority that show up for their annual meeting are ex-JW's who are there to please their still-in families so they can continue to have family dinners that year and have their parents babysit the grandkids now and then without being treated as scum of the earth because "they didn't even go to the MEMORIAL!!!!!"

JW.ORG Business Cards?
by toweragent indid anybody else get an announcement at their meeting about the branch approved jw.org business cards?.
apparantly, they're real slick and fit into your wallet (making it easier to informal witness).
the logic was, some people don't want to be handed a big tract and would prefer something smaller.. so strange considering how little there is to those tracts!

Convention Season-"Saving Good Seats" & Other Embarrassing Behavior
by Darth Fader The Sequel insince it is the convention season (and i am not attending this year or ever again), and i have been seeing other posts about some of the goings on at the various ic's and rc's, i am reminded of some of the truly embarrassing behavior i have "witnessed" (pun intended) over my lifetime of being a jdub at the various conventions and assemblies.
probably the most disillusioning experience at a convention that i have ever had was one year when i volunteered to be an attendant.
all of the volunteers were asked to attend a special meeting a few months beforehand to get instructions for our duties as attendants.

InquiryMan- I imagine it is just an American JW phenomena. It would not surprise me. We are a strange lot.
There is another component to "the 8am stampede" that I have observed and it is racial and/or class based. However, if we talk about this component I am sure all we will do is piss off other members of this forum. So I will just leave it at that.

Thanks, Mum. ;-) I should have been more obvious in my tongue-in-cheek remarks. Yes, there is so very little that adds up to any version of reality when it comes to the story of the flood.
Billy's points about the marsupials of the Australian continent are good ones. There are many others. For instance, how did giant Galapagos tortoises manage to crawl down Mt. Ararat and venture on over to some of the most remote islands in the world that happen to reside in the middle of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Ecuador? Tortoises. Creatures the size of an ATV knew to migrate halfway around the world through oceans and continents to arrive in their paradise islands in the Pacific?
Or, how about the Tapirs. Large pig x rhino x hippo-like jungle animals that exited the ark and made a bee line trek through Mongolia, Russia, Siberia, the Aleutian Island, Alaska, Canada, United States, most of Mexico to arrive in their idilic jungle in central and south America? Oh! But wait!!! Some of those same Tapirs decided to not make the long journey with their families and so they detoured to Malaysia to settle in. But Tapirs are found in no other places on earth than the areas I already mentioned.
I could go on for days........

Apognophos- if "we" are supposed to be imitating what happened the night that jesus did this with the apostles, doesn't it seem reasonable to think that the only reason the emblems were passed around the table as described in the bible was exactly because it was a table they were sitting around and all in attendance, the apostles, were told to partake?
If the speaker giving the Memorial talk is a partaker, how easy would it be for him to take two steps sideways and do the deed? No ritual needed. (I do like your "emblem bandit" comment).

Maybe I am the dumb one here (totally within the realm of possibility) but,............. I just noticed in the photo above from the My Book of Bible Stories (flood scene) that there are Mastodons on the last piece of dry ground about to drown in the flood? Sooooooo............ Mastodons were not worthy animals to have been saved on Noah's Ark? Only regular elephants, not the really big hairy ones?
Wait, um, err, am I to believe that humans and Mastodons lived together on earth at the same time?
